Erica has been a trial lawyer for over 17 years. Erica is known for being a fearless, effective and accomplished trial lawyer who continues to broaden her list of accomplishments. Most recently, she was lead counsel in a “cold case” murder trial that culminated in a “not guilty” verdict.
Erica has taken to trial DUI cases, felony and misdemeanor domestic violence and assault cases, child endangerment, felony evading and criminal threats cases. In most of these cases, she secured “Not Guilty” verdicts. Erica also continues to assist her dad in his civil and criminal trials. She also has co-counseled, provided guidance and assisted other leading criminal defense attorneys with their cases.
Erica continues to handle primarily all criminal cases, whether felonies or misdemeanors, in any court. She handles DUI cases with the accompanying DMV administrative hearings. Erica successfully represented U.S. Veterans charged with DUIs who were facing serious jail time through Military Diversion and Veterans’ Court. These Veterans received the necessary help they needed instead of going to jail.
Erica is very active with the California DUI Lawyers Association. After she and her dad secured a Not Guilty Verdict on a Gross Vehicular Manslaughter case, she was invited to speak and share her experience, trial preparation and courtroom strategy before the association and guests. On another occasion, she was honored as a guest speaker in San Francisco at one of their seminars. Erica also received the President’s Award for her dedication and participation with the California DUI Lawyer Association.
Earlier in her career, Erica took the lead on a civil appeal on a case that was wrongfully decided by a trial judge and dismissed. Erica filed and prosecuted the appeal. At oral argument, the defendants had 5 to 6 lawyers including an appellate specialist advocating for their side. After oral argument, Justice Bedsworth, the presiding justice of the Court of Appeal, complimented Erica on her briefing as being “excellent.” Erica won the appeal, the case was reversed and ultimately settled. The case was certified for publication. See Juan R. Flores v. Autozone West, Inc. (2008) 161 Cal.App.4th 373. This was Erica’s feather in her cap in the appellate arena.
